How do digital calipers work?

Digital calipers are an accurate way of taking precise measurements. They work by placing the object between the set of jaws that move along a sliding scale. When the plates on the jaw align / mis-align this in turn changes the electrical charge (capacitance) between the plates. A signal is sent to a microchip fitted inside the caliper, which then shows the reading on the LCD display screen
