Inline espag locks have flat faceplates which are usually 16mm wide. In the past there used to be espags with 20mm width faceplates but these are no longer in production.
Many espags will have some kind of branding on them to tell you which manufacturer they come from. If not, try to match types visually.
An ‘inline gearbox’ sits along the centre line of the faceplate, as viewed from the end-on.
Make sure to check the backset size also, as shown:
Most espags use ‘Mushroom’ cams, but some espags also have the option for ‘Roller’ cams.
